Grammy-Nominated DMV Artist Shaboozey To Play Halftime Show At Bears-Lions Thanksgiving Game

Fresh off of multiple Grammy nominations, the NFL confirmed that the Woodbridge native would be the featured artist at during the halftime show of the Detroit Lions-Chicago Bears game on Thanksgiving.

The game begins at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 28, and can be viewed on CBS.

According to the NFL, "the holiday games continue to be a force in viewership," and millions are expected to see the six-time Grammy-nominated star on the big stage.

"US viewership for each Thanksgiving halftime show surpasses all major award shows, as well as other sporting and non-sporting events, and outside of the Super Bowl halftime show, no other musical performance exists with more live," officials said.

The Detroit Lions highlighted the Virginia native's past in a press release announcing his scheduled halftime show.

"Acclaimed singer-songwriter Shaboozey is building his own world while carving a lane in the alternative country and hip-hop space," they wrote. 

"Born to parents of Nigerian descent and raised in the small town of Woodbridge, the multi-faceted artist grew up on an eclectic mix of music encompassing classic hip-hop and R&B, to country and blues icons like Johnny Cash, Kenny Rogers, Garth Brooks, and Lead Belly, to master lyricists, such as Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen.

Other artists to be featured on Thanksgiving include Lainey Wilson during the midday Cowboys-Giants game on FOX and violinist Lindsey Stirling during the late game between the Packers and Dolphins on NBC.

"As Thanksgiving brings loved ones together for a day of family, food, and football, we're proud to work with our clubs and broadcast partners to showcase extraordinary artists across our three games," Seth Dudowsky, head of music at the NFL said in a statement. 

"The NFL on Thanksgiving provides artists with a massive platform that continues to grow, and we know this year's games will bring another unforgettable day of football, music, and unifying moments for fans watching across the country and around the world."
